  1. Eat 3 small meals per day. Eating 3 meals per day will provide the proper nutrition your body needs. Eating more than this or "grazing throughout the day is unconsciou eating and can lead to excessive calorie intake.
  2. Limit portion sizes to 3-4 oz. Portion sizes should reflect the size of your new pouch. Eating more will eventually stretch the size of the puch and lead to an increased calorie consumption and weight gain.

Protein

Your goal is to consume at least 60-80 grams of protein from your food and protein shake on a daily basis. Protein is an essential nutrient to the body. Its primary function is to aid in muscle and tissue repair. It will also help to maintain lean muscle mass as you lose fat. Protein is found in meat, fish, poultry, beans/legumes, eggs, tofu and dairy. The following protein guide will assist you with counting grams of protein to ensure adequate intake.

  • 1 oz. protein (meat/fish) = 7 g
  • 1 egg = 8 g
  • 1/4 cup Egg Beaters = 6 g

Dietary Guideline Tips
  • Patients are advised to remain on a liquid diet for 24 hours after being adjusted
  • Progression to soft, then regular food is recommended the following day if no problems occur
  • Eat Slower: The amount of food which can pass through the decreased opening size is far smaller after adjustment. If you do not decrease the rate at which you eat the food will have nowhere to go, back up into your throat, and you will vomit
  • Cut food items into very small pieces
